Nina Dobrev: Just Like Her

If you haven't already heard of Nina Dobrev, she's the leading lady in The Vampire Diaries, a modern version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. How I miss the '90s. Other than being the leading character of the series, she's also known for her beautiful looks, especially her gorgeous eyes, to which I agree with!

The 23-year-old launched her "Like Her, Like Me" Got Milk? campaign with Seventeen Magazine last Thursday with her mother, Michaela Constantine. Dobrev wore a fluorescent pink dress with pink & burgundy eye makeup and red lipgloss. And frankly speaking, I don't think there was a better eye makeup look to pull off with this super bright pink dress!

Face: As always, follow these five quick steps before putting on any makeup. You'll thank me!

Nina's skin, as you can see, is not very light. Her medium skin tone is actually very close to mine (finally, someone I can relate to!), so if you have darker-than-pale skin, choose a blush that is mild, like a coral blush. The darker your skin, the darker blush you wear to have that "natural blend" on your cheeks. She's not wearing a shimmery blush, so it's always nice to wear a matte blush, especially when you have healthy skin because it blends well with your skin and looks more natural. I'd say, with the Maybelline FIT blushes ($5.50, drugstore.com), it would be a medium pink or medium coral, fair chance. I'm going to start making a chart on what kinds of blushes fit with each skin tone, so look out for that!

Eyes: Moisturize your eyes - your eyes are just as important as your skin! As always, I use the Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado ($28). After two months of using it, I'm only starting to dip from the jar as I've been dipping from the lip - that should tell you how long it'll last.

Use concealer, only if necessary. You don't want to make your eyes whiter than it is!

I usually recommend the NARS Smudge Proof Eye Base but the latest awesome discovery I've found is Jesse's Girl Eye Shadow Primer ($5.99). It has the same efficiency as the expensive eyeshadow primers but it is only a third of the price! Jesse's Girl products are sold at Rite Aid and passing by them at least a million times now, I think I'm finally going to give more of their products a try; don't underestimate drugstore cosmetics!

Now, Nina is wearing false eyelashes and whether you want to or not, is at your discretion. If you choose to, make sure you apply them before you put on any makeup because you'd have to put glue on it and move it around to make it perfect and you don't want to mess up your makeup. A good and cheap one to test out with is the Fashion Lashes Strip Lash from Ardell ($3.49, drugstore.com). A lot of people who usually wear false eyelashes go for MAC Cosmetics lashes but I'd say that if you've never used them before, there's a possibility you might not like them, so it's best that you "test the waters" with a cheaper product.

Take a matte brown eyeshadow, like Bare Mauve from LA Colors ($1.20, Cherryculture) and pat over the above crease.

Next, choose a shimmery coral-peachy eyeshadow color (you may take a blush). The coral shade on the MAC Dynamic Duo 1 ($20.50) is so gorgeous and neutral! Pat this all over your lids.

You now can either go for a darker pink or a light brown color. Since you're saving a darker color for the outer lid and outer crease, it's only reasonable that you choose a very light brown for the middle of the lid. Milani's Sheer Sand eyeshadow ($2.99) is a gorgeous sandy-beige color you can blend in with any pinks and browns!

For the outer lid, I highly suggest the Infallible Eye Shadow by L'Oreal in Continuous Cocoa ($6.97, Walmart). Good thing we're using a cream eyeshadow for the outer lid and not the middle of the lid because mistakes can always happen when you're dealing with eyeshadow in the middle! While you're applying to the outer lid, gently blend it in with the middle of the lid and bring it up to the outer crease a little.

After you do this, take the Milani eyeshadow again and blend it with the L'Oreal eyeshadow on the outer crease so it's evened out - you don't want a huge portion of the dark eyeshadow sticking out!

Back to the false lashes: If you wish, you can apply dark eyeliner (preferably liquid) on your natural lash line on your upper eyelid and fill in any gaps. It's better to use a liquid eyeliner like Revlon's ColorStay Liner ($7.29, drugstore) just because liquid eyeliner is long-lasting and has a point where it's easier to draw the line. After you do this, apply the eyeliner on your lower waterline as well.

Lastly, the mascara! You can't really wear false lashes without putting on mascara...at least that was what I was told. I was also told that the Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara ($2.99) is the new hot mascara on the market and it is definitely a "holy grail" for many beauty enthusiasts!

Lips: I know it's still Spring (boo!) time and allergies haven't left the building, so we're still dealing with runny noses and dried lips. One thing to do is to exfoliate once every few days. Sometimes, even lip balms do not help. There are many ways to exfoliate and one of the tips a dear friend (thanks, Karen!) taught me was to take some petroleum jelly onto your finger, sprinkle some sugar and scrub it all over your lips as if you're brushing your teeth! It may be a little messy when you're washing it out but it is guaranteed to leave your lips feeling fresh and healthy!

Also, make sure you apply some lip balm before putting on lipstick or lipgloss. Forget lip primer, lip balm does the trick!

I think I would've preferred a shimmery pink lipgloss on Nina, instead of the glossy red lipgloss but I won't like, the red lipgloss is pretty nice on her! For a red, sheen lipgloss, try Neutrogena's MoistureShine Lip Soother in Glaze ($5.19), plus they have SPF 20!

MAC's Pink Poodle Tinted Lipgloss ($14.50) would be the perfect pink color for this dress! Why not have fuschia lipgloss with a fuschia dress?
