New Year's Eve Dress Ideas

Happy New Year! Boy, I cannot believe a year has gone by so fast already. It seemed like 2010 was just yesterday. I had a lot of ups and downs this year but I guess I cannot complain too much. One of the best things of this year was starting this blog. I finally got the courage to do something I've been wanting to for a very long time and hopefully, I've inspired some people.

I know people are all about celebrating and partying out tonight and it seems like tonight might be perfect for glitter and whatnot. What better to end the year with a little sparkle and shiny clothing for a squeaky, new year?

Item Of The Day: Leann Rimes' Hot Pink Pants

Country singer LeAnn Rimes hit the slopes with beau Eddie Cibrian in Aspen, Co., with a black denim jacket over a pair of hot pink pants tucked in black fuzz boots. I do love hot pink with black...just in a complete opposite way though. So what do we think of her hot pink pants (even though she's seldom wearing a light gray jacket)? Did she pull it off well or not?

Baby, It's Cold Outside: A Guide to Puffer Coats and Its Surroundings

It is around 20-30 degrees at this time, which is pretty high for December, considering it is normally at low 10s at this time of the year. But then again, it starts snowing in January-March so there are hardly any white Christmases! As basic trench coats are less trending as the temperature is constantly falling, it's time to think about keeping warm while being trendy and winter is all about showing off what's on the outside.

For the last few years, I have really ditched my puffer coats because I thought they made me look like a giant marshmallow and will ruin any outfit I have. Turns out I'm wrong. There are ways puffer coats can stand out with outfits. However, it's the way you wear it.

I know what you're thinking. How could a shiny, puffy, air cushion packaging-like coat be fashionable at all? What could it ever do for me, other than to keep me warm?

Update

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! I know I've been MIA lately since I've had finals and had these depressing "side-effects". But I am so ready to get back on the blogging! I have missed it too much and all this time, I kept thinking about making a new post but it does take a lot of time and I want you all to know that I spend a lot of time and effort into making each post (this one, not so much) to give you only the best ideas and I'm grateful that people still have been reading my posts, even while I was away! So, thank you all for that and I promise that I will try updating more as I have a volunteer job on the side as well.

Jessica Alba: Chic in Manhattan

Warning: Hot mama in town warming up the cold New York weather! (No really, it just hit 70 degrees today!) Jessica Alba has been in town since the weekend with eight-week old daughter Haven Garner for Glamour's 21st annual "Women of the Year" awards. While she's in town, she's been out and about, making occasional stops at Starbucks and shopping. While the actress has always been in style, I found her casual outfit from yesterday (November 7th), simple yet very appealing, something that very much reflects my own style and perfect for the coming chilly weather.

Inspirational Fridays: Night Out!

TGIF! While it's going back to being cold, rainy and gloomy here in New York, hope it's sunny and nice for the rest of you! My cousin, who lives in Austin, Texas, tells me she's enjoying mid-80s weather. I envy those of you with weather higher than 75 degrees!

Since it's Friday and people yearn all week for their weekend to start, here are some ideas on what to wear for the night (whether you're going out tonight or this weekend)

Kristin Cavallari: Dressing Like a Star

Dancing With The Stars' latest victim, Kristin Cavallari, arrived at LAX with her dancing partner (or should I say former) Mark Ballas, and her plane landed her on the fashion runway as she was dressed in style while jet lagged. She was makeup-free and dressed all in black with a leather jacket, black leggings, mid-calf suede heels, and accessorized her outfit with her Alexander Wang Coco Duffel Bag and spiced her all-black outfit with a loose beige printed scarf.

Get her look!

Jana Kramer: Brown-Eyed Beauty

The gorgeous Jana Kramer, One Tree Hill's troubled actress (only in character) turned successful country singer, got all cameras to turn on her at the Footloose premiere in Westwood, CA on Monday in a pretty Blaque Label pink dress. She flourished a smokey, shimmery brown eyes look and nude pink lips matched with her pink dress, a combo that reminds us summer wasn't too long ago. While it may seem crazy right now to wear a strapless pink dress here in the East Coast, it's not a probably as it's usually warmer in the West Coast. So it is definitely a great look with her summery dress. In fact, it's a great look for any dress color. I really loved her choice with the black liquid eyeliner on the upper lid; it pretty much defines the whole smokey eye look!

So in honor of Ms. Kramer's gorgeous look, *drum rolls*....I'm doing a tutorial! Yes!!

Here are the steps for the look inspired by Jana Kramer!

Milla Jovovich: Smokin' Hot!

Last night, actress Milla Jovovich (best known for the "Resident Evil" film franchises) shined (literally) at the "Three Musketeers" premiere in no other place than London, in a Salvatore Ferragamo sequined slit gown from the Fall 2011 RTW collection, silver clutch, diamond rings, and black Christian Louboutin peep toe pumps. She looked stunning! What really caught my eye was the choice of makeup she used to go with her outfit; she matched her outfit with sultry, grey-silver smokey eyes, a very light coral blush and cherry red lips.

Here's a how-to look, inspired by Milla's smokey eyes:

Eyes: Start with a eyeshadow base. I like NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base ($24 at Sephora).

Apply MAC Print ($15 at MACCosmetics.com, MAC Counters) all over the lid.

You're going to want a shimmery, light, metallic gray eyeshadow. MAKE UP FOREVER's Slate Grey ($19 at Sephora) has a shimmery and vibrant grey best used on the middle lid. Blend that a little with MAC Paint so it doesn't look like it's in layers.

Here's the fun part: a black eyeshadow! Black eyeshadow is sold everywhere and is one of the most used eyeshadow colors so it doesn't have to be expensive. You just need a matte eyeshadow for this. NYX Single Eyeshadow in Black ($5 at Ulta) is the perfect pigmented matte eyeshadow if you're looking for cheap. (Alternatives: Illamasqua Lestat, MAC Carbon, Urban Decay Perversion). Apply this all over the outer lid and blend it a little with MUFE Slate Grey and try to bring it out to the outer crease slowly. This is the part where it does the job to make the whole smokey eye stand out. Blend it until you think you're blending it at a consistent amount.

And this is the part where everyone struggles the most with: eyeliner! Except you're using liquid eyeliner so you have to be extra careful when applying. Like the eyeshadow, you don't have to invest so much money in black eyeliner but you'll want to invest your money wisely on a long-lasting, creaseless, waterproof eyeliner that won't make you look like you just cried! A good waterproof liquid eyeliner is Wet N Wild's Black Liquid Eyeliner ($3 at drugstores). (Alternatives: Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Eyeliner, Revlon ColorStay Eye Pen). Apply that on your inner and outer lower lash line.

If you have a pencil brush or any kind of flat eyeliner brush, pat a little of the black eyeshadow on the outer lower lash line.

Mascara is optional but most prefer eyeshadow with it comes to heavy eye makeup. In that case, Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes! ($19 at Sephora) is one of the best mascaras I've used and by one of the best, I mean that mascaras don't usually cope well with my eyelashes.

Lips: We don't want to be over-the-top with shimmer lipgloss now do we? For bright lips, try NARS Jungle Red Lipstick ($24 at Sephora) and coat it when clear lipgloss. If you're afraid of your lipgloss coming off easily, apply e.l.f. Studio Lip Primer & Plumper ($3 at eyeslipsface.com).

Audrina Patridge: Laid-Back Over The Hills!

Seriously, how stunning did "Bongo" spokeswoman Audrina Patridge look just 2 days ago at the "Bongo" at Sears event in Los Cerritos, CA? She was nothing but laid-back and comfortable in her simple (yet chic) red-blue plaid button-down, white burnout tee, light gray skinny jeans and lace-up boots. And in addition to her outfit, she made her first public event as a blonde! Personally, I think she looks stunning; her new hair color absolutely goes very well with her skin color and actually makes her skin glow.

The former Dancing With The Stars contestant makes laid-back the new glamorous with plaid shirt and the laced-up wedge boots.

To get her look (for cheaper, obviously!), start with the white burnout tank from Billabong at Swell for $19.99 (make sure you wear a white bra inside), light gray jeans from Acquaverde at Yoox for only $20, lace-up wedges from Blowfish for $44.80, and plaid shirt from Forever 21 for $19.90! Quite a steal, huh?

Welcome!

Well, hello, hello, HELLO!

I just want to start off by introducing myself.

My name is Sharon and I am a 19-year old college student in New York City. I am a journalism major (focus on magazine editing) with aspirations of working for high-profile fashion magazines such as Allure, Seventeen, Harper's Bazaar, Teen Vogue and Vogue, just like every girl dreams of. (Of course, I can't work for all of them!) I spend my time on Tumblr, walking on the streets of the city, window shopping and of course, writing. I am not a hardcore fashion blogger so don't expect me to post too much about fashion news and whatnot. I do blog a little about everything, including food, cosmetics, sightings, advice, etc.

Don't be shy; you can ask me anything!

I will be posting more and hopefully the word will get out about my blog sooner or later.

Thanks for reading!
