Scarlett Johansson: Au Naturalé!

Are you as excited as I am for "The Avengers" to come out on May 4? I'm already counting down the days! It is most likely going to be the blockbuster of the summer, with most of our beloved Marvel heroes all in one film (minus Spider-Man - boo!), including the leading lady, Scarlett Johansson! She sure did rock the red hair in "Iron Man 2" but she is back to blond and looked stunning at the "The Avengers" premiere on Wednesday!

As we already know, Scarlett is known for her natural beauty, with very minimal makeup at red carpet events. Chances of seeing her with heavy, dramatic makeup is odd. Every time she shows up at an event with her staggering beauty, it's like she turns the event into another era - kind of like the show "Mad Men". She just has this look where it reminisces the '60s with her fresh face.

Face: I like that Scarlett did not wear dramatic makeup, like smokey eyes and bright red lips as many people would do with black dresses. This is one of the things I like about her: she keeps it simple, yet classy.

Here's what I advise:
1. Use a cleanser an lather it all over your face. Clean & Clear Morning Burst Cleanser is known to
"wake you up" in the morning and has vitamins in it that will freshen you up. You can also purchase the scrub (but don't use it everyday as it will damage your skin) but cleanser is an every day use.

2. Moisturize! It is important to moisturize your skin daily and since this spring weather has been volatile, you never know when it's going to be cold one day or warm the next. I'm not one to moisturize regularly but I have been using Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion lately and I moisturize my face every day, which isn't very typical of me.

3. Primer! Yes, foundation is known to clog pores, especially liquid. Liquid or mineral foundation, make sure you have a base under your makeup as a "shield" or if you look at it the other way, to make your makeup stand out even more. Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer is creamy, lightweight and evens skin tones, especially if you have any blemishes.

4. Concealer/Foundation. With the recent stress of exams and little-to-no sleep, I've been developing heavy dark circles under my eyes. It's very scary. Hard Candy has always been a brand I've loved and their Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer does the trick - and it comes with a concealer pencil!
I wear mineral makeup during the winter and spring seasons because I know I don't s
weat as much during those times and because mineral makeup does less damage. L'Oreal's True Match Naturale Mineral Foundationgoes on smoothly and gives a matte finish. It is a great product but the only problem I have with it is the brush, which you cannot take out and wash (unsanitary!)

5. Blush. Like I said in my previous tip, I lack a lot of sleep so I look pale and zombie-ish. I do rely on blush most of the time to look "healthy". However, I don't like dark, very pink blushes unless it's necessary. I always prefer something light and something that matches with my skin tone. If you have palish skin like Scarlett, I suggest the light pink shade from Maybelline's FIT Me Blush. I might have said it before in my other posts, but I am completely in love with this line and the blushes! There are so many natural-like colors to choose from and they're very pretty shades. Just remember to smile when applying blush to your cheekbones! Do you not see the gorgeous cheekbones of ScarJo?

Eyes: There are so many eyeshadows out there that makes you look like you're not wearing any! One of my favorite forms of eyeshadow is cream because they glide on so easily and they're long-lasting. I've always liked the MAC Cosmetics Paint Pots ($17) - you may have seen many beauty gurus use them as eyeshadow bases but they're still eyeshadows! I like these because there's a match for most skin tones and you can wear them just like that.

Also, Scarlett is wearing a soft brown eyeliner - very good choice as she did not choose a dramatic color to match her dress. If you have a light brown eyeshadow, you can always turn it into an eyeliner! Just apply eye primer on your bottom eyelid and use a eyeliner brush, preferably an angled brush like the ecoTools Angled Eyeliner Brush and gently pat it on your lower lash line.

Don't be dramatic with mascaras when you're doing a soft, pretty look. As long as your mascara doesn't smudge or clump, any mascara is fine. Try The Body Shop's Super Volume Mascara ($15) as it does not smear or clump; everything a woman wishes for in a mascara!

Lips: There is nothing wrong with a little shimmer. Being a shimmery makeup lover, I always tend to buy makeup with at least some shimmer in it, although I am trying to make the transition to matte makeup. With that said, NARS Love Devotion ($24 at Sephora) deserves some love for its nude-neutral color with just a little touch of shimmer, for the fun of it!

  1. I also love the fact that she wears super natural makeup. That's what I do as well: you'll rarely see me wearing eyeshadow or bold lipstick. I usually focus on mascara (with very little or none eyeliner, so that my eyes keep their natural expression), pink/peachy blush and either sheep lipgloss or rosey lipstick. For evening looks, I wear either darker lipstick or more eyeliner with nude lips, but never bold eyes and lips at the same time!

By the way, I’m hosting a giveaway in my blog: a very unique totebag from Romerobags. Feel free to participate in http://diaryofamoderndaylady.blogspot.com/2012/03/modern-day-lady-first-giveaway.html . Good luck!
